Keeping Glass in Top Condition: A Guide

Hello! My name is Vince. Last year, I learnt a very important lesson - if you do not look after the glass in your home, it will not look after you. You see, I hadn't really inspected, cleaned or carried out any maintenance work on the glass windows and doors in my home. One day, during a storm, the glass in one of my windows shattered. I didn't know what to do. When I called in a glass contractor, he said that the glass had failed due to a hairline crack. He replaced the other pieces of glass in my home and gave me some advice about glass care.

The Advantages of a Glass Splashback

Kitchen splashbacks are available in a range of materials to suit various aesthetics. Glass is one option that has several advantages. Continue reading to find out more.

Hygienic

Depending on the size of your wall area, a glass splashback is made up of many large panels. There are no grooves or gaps in these panels to gather mould and mildew. Additionally, a glass splashback does not have grout lines that run the length of the surface, which can be unhygienic. Glass is also nonporous, smooth and easy to wipe clean.

Reflective

A polished glass splashback reflects light throughout your kitchen, making it appear brighter and more open. If you have a compact kitchen that you want to look more spacious, a glass splashback is a wonderful alternative. Remember that pale colours reflect more light than dark ones, so for the greatest effect, use pale beige, blue or white, for example. Reflective services also provide depth to the room by displaying shadowy images of the rest of the kitchen. However, the impression is more subtle than that of a mirrored splashback.

Uncluttered

Glass splashbacks provide a clean, uncomplicated appearance that is perfect for a minimalist setting. An uncluttered appearance also helps create a feeling of openness and provides the impression that the room is larger than it actually is. Conversely, the grout lines on surfaces like tiles can make a place appear claustrophobic and crowded.

Optional Colours

A glass splashback's colour can be chosen from a variety of sample swatches that offer numerous colour subtleties. They'll feature many hues of blue, beige, yellow and green, for example. As a result, if you want your kitchen to have a smooth, seamless look, you can perfectly integrate the splashback with the countertop to minimise the transitions between surfaces. Alternatively, you may create a dramatic statement by using chartreuse or teal as a splashback colour.

For the panels, you might choose low-iron glass, which will give the most accurate representation of your chosen colour. Because of its iron concentration, standard clear glass has a green tint that can affect the back painted colour. However, this green cast is less obvious with dark colours such as charcoal or navy, for instance. If you want a lighter splashback in mint or cream, for example, go for low-iron glass that is clear and transparent without a green tint. You'll receive a purer representation of your selected colour this way. To learn more, contact a glass splashback service.
