Keeping Glass in Top Condition: A Guide

Hello! My name is Vince. Last year, I learnt a very important lesson - if you do not look after the glass in your home, it will not look after you. You see, I hadn't really inspected, cleaned or carried out any maintenance work on the glass windows and doors in my home. One day, during a storm, the glass in one of my windows shattered. I didn't know what to do. When I called in a glass contractor, he said that the glass had failed due to a hairline crack. He replaced the other pieces of glass in my home and gave me some advice about glass care.

How To Keep Your Glass Kitchen Splashbacks Clean At All Times

One of the ways to jazz up your kitchen and give it an elegant, modern look is by installing glass splashbacks. They come in a variety of designs, patterns, and colors to match or complement your kitchen theme. What's more, glass splashbacks add visual interest and make the kitchen look bigger than it is. However, due to their material, they may seem hard to maintain. Food spills and streaks that result from poor cleaning can cause them to become unsightly fixtures in your kitchen. Here are some simple and actionable tips that will help you keep glass kitchen splashbacks clean at all times.

Clean spills immediately

When foods spill on your glass splashbacks, you should wipe them down immediately to prevent the stains from sticking to the glass. Stains that have stayed longer are apparently hard to clean. Splashbacks that are installed behind the stoves are usually prone to food spills; therefore, it would be good practice to clean them once you are done with the cooking. Do not wait to do so as you wash the dishes later as you will end up spending more time to get rid of the stains.

Invest in the right cleaner

You should clean glass with the correct cleaning solutions to prevent the annoying streaks that show up afterward. Invest in quality glass cleaning agents from the local store. You can also use a mild dishwashing solution and warm water. Spray the cleaner on the splashback and wipe it down with a clean cloth. For stubborn stains, you can leave the solution on the glass for a few minutes then clean it when the spill is manageable.

In addition to the right cleaning agent, you also need an ideal cloth. Lint-free cloths are the best for cleaning glass splashbacks, windows, and other glass fixtures in the home. If you don't have one, you can use paper towels. Wipe the glass from top to bottom, ensuring that all the marks are removed.

Keep the hands away

Glass is the kind of material that will always show fingerprints when someone touches it with dirty or wet hands. To keep your kitchen splashbacks clean at all times, ensure that no one is touching them aimlessly. This can be hard if you have kids, but you can instill kitchen rules in your home. If someone touches the glass with greasy or dirty hands, they should wipe it down immediately to prevent staining.

If you have any problem with your splashbacks, or the glass breaks accidentally, don't hesitate to contact an expert for advice and professional repairs.
